I woke up feeling alright but a little slow from beers the night before. Talked to my roomie Jason for a bit and an American girl from Minnesota while I got myself sorted before heading out. Headed to the train station and bought a ticket for the high speed train ICE from Frankfurt to Amsterdam for a few weeks time. Because I was organized I was able to get a special fare: €70 for a reserved first class seat, a saving of €100 ($200aud). Pretty happy about that.
I walked through Munich's old town, pretty much following the same route as the day before but at a lot slower pace and taking photos this time. Made a few skype calls by stealing the Apple store's wifi just standing out the front, looks like I'm just talking on my phone.
I wandered through Victuralien (?) market and picked up some lunch, then walked down a random road and ended up at a roundabout with a big garden in the middle. Pictured below was my view while I ate lunch. Sat there in the sun for a while, it was 29 degrees so perfect day and you don't really get sunburnt here.
From there I walked downt the river, found a cool art shop and some graffiti on the way. It was a pretty cool little gallery with German or possibly French house playing in the background...very typical. The river was nice and there were a few people out having a swim at the 'beach'. Headed down Maximilianstrasse back into town and by chance I ended up out the front of Hofbrauhaus, an offer I couldn't refuse on a warm Wednesday afternoon. Asked for a 0.5L beer and got 1L, but didn't complain....was quite happy with the mistake. Hofbrauhaus is a tourist trap, but still something to be done. Bayern Munich were playing a match intown, with Man U playing Boca Juniors in the opener. So there were lots of people in there and it was pretty rowdy with team songs being sung and stuff like that. I've been pretty jet lagged still in the afternoon and beer doesn't help. Headed back to the hostel with stinging eyes and had a sleep for about 45 mins, had a feeling it was going to be a big night.
I hung out with the canadians (mike, paul, sara), two pommy guys scott (metalhead who played guitar in a GnR cover band with Steven Adler) and max, as well as Ash from Adelaide and Axl from Bavaria. Had a good night but very boozy early on thanks to €1 happy hour lasting from 6-8. Took it easy until happy hour #2 from 12-1am (Responsible Service of What?). Ended up walking the streets around the hostel at 3:30ish before heading to bed.
