May 2013 - San Francisco

Not really sure what to say about San Francisco at the moment! The people are so nice, the most polite and considerate people I've come across in any city before. The customer service is really really good as to be expected, but general day-to-day politeness in the street is where it really shines. My favourite example was an old guy on the train who was getting ready to clear his things from a seat so that we could sit down. We found another seat anyway but a few polite smiles were exchanged and then we were getting off at the same stop as he was. I said "Thanks for offering your seat, I appreciate it" to which he replied "No problem, it's good to be nice. If more people were nice, there wouldn't be so much pain in the world". There were also two women at the baseball who seemed to take great pleasure in explaining the ins-and-outs of the game to Kym. At the end after a hug and goodbye they sai "Thanks for coming and thanks for supporting our club". Apart from that, we've been taking it really slowly. After a few weeks of madness at home we didn't want to kill ourselves rushing around checking out tourist destinations in crowds. SF is a good match because it's much slower and more relaxed than Sydney. We've seen a few dodgy things like the odd minor drug deal, a cop telling a man that he might be marked (by a gang) for hitting a pedestrian in the street and other little things...but it's not dangerous, maybe just a little rough in spots. Anyway enough jibber jabber here are some photos (if you look carefully you can see a broken half of the batter's bat flying through the air to his left).
